The "Spring Festival - Chinese people's social practice of celebrating the traditional New Year" was inscribed in December 2024 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. With this inclusion, China now boasts 44 projects on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, the highest in the world.
In China, the Spring Festival marks the New Year, occurring on the first day of the lunar calendar. It encompasses various social practices to welcome the new year, pray for good fortune, celebrate family reunions, and foster community harmony, a process known as "guonian" (crossing the year).
