On December 7, 2023, President Xi Jinping met with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen，both of whom are in Beijing for the 24th China-EU Summit. 

Xi Jinping emphasized the "strategic importance" of relations between China and the European Union for global peace, stability and prosperity, and called on both sides to strengthen strategic communication and enhance understanding. 

China is promoting high-quality development and high-level opening up, and is willing to treat the EU as a key partner in economic and trade cooperation, pursuing mutual benefits and win-win results and realizing common development.
